What is my approach?

“What kind of coach are you, anyway?”

Tough love? Wind beneath my wings?

Org charts? Conflict patterns?

I get this a lot. My answer? Yes. And it depends.

Balance is everything.

  • When you need truth (hard to get when you are the boss!), I’ll be the one to give it to you.

  • When you need cheerleading, I’m here.

  • When you lose track of your goals or forget who you are, I’m here to help you get back on track.

  • When you’re lost in the weeds, I’ll pull you back out to the big picture.

What does an executive coach do?

I am a trained therapist as well as an experienced operator, and my job is to help you become the very best version of who you desire to be at work.

Now, the great news about this coaching for your work life is that it also tends to spill over to the rest of your life—because despite our best efforts, humans are still shit at compartmentalizing.

But how do we do this?

Uncover and change patterns.

Practical issues nearly always trace back to emotional issues. And the way forward is not just about new behaviors. It’s about a new mentality that’s reflected in new behaviors.

Here’s an example that comes up frequently: do you have difficulty facilitating tough conversations with your team, even though you know that you need to? Does this pattern show up anywhere else in your life? What are your underlying fears about conflict? What are your beliefs about this?

In this example, our work together isn’t just about me teaching you how to have better conversations (though I do this too). Our bigger goal is for you to also understand why this is hard for you so these conversations actually get easier.

Help you find YOUR voice.

There’s a ton of advice out there, much of it conflicting. There are infinite paths to success, but figuring out which one to take can feel confusing.

Yes, it’s important to learn best practices. But this work is also about figuring out what kind of leader you aspire to be. Sending you off with the greatest hits of management tips won’t work because change doesn’t tend to stick if it doesn’t feel authentic. It’s about finding a leadership style and approach that feels natural for you.

Make it real.

Insight is great, but it’s not enough just to do self-reflection. We have to translate the insights into practical actions and frameworks. My goal is that every client leaves every session with a list of concrete steps that move them closer to their goals.
